    Portrait of 4671 Private (Pte) Herbert Alexander Mouat, 6th Battalion. A barman from Poowong, Vic, Pte Mouat embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 28 January 1916. He was wounded in action, receiving a gunshot wound to the spine, on 28 October 1917 and transferred to hospital in England where he later died, on 28 September 1918. An inscription on the back of the postcard reads: "4671 Pte Herbert Alexander Mouat, 6th Battalion, holding the 'Xmas Dinner'. Taken in France."

    Studio portrait of 3620 Sergeant James Leonard Paddock MSM (left, on motorcycle), Australian Corps of Signals, and 1702 Corporal Herbert Reginald Bain MSM (right, in sidecar), 1st Divisional Signal Company. Both men returned home to Australia in April 1919. The sidecar was made, by the men, out of parts from a damaged aeroplane, with the word 'signals' painted on the side. The original negative for this photograph is held at P10550.662 as part of the Thuillier glass-plate collection

    Studio portrait of Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) (later Corporal) Bernard Sidney Gordon MM VC, of the 41st Battalion. L/Cpl Gordon was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for action on the 8th August 1918 at Hamel, and the Victoria Cross (VC) for further bravery eighteen days later. During advances towards Fargny Wood on the night of 26-27 August 1918, Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Gordon led his section through heavy shellfire and then single-handedly attacked an enemy machine gun post, then cleared up a number of trenches. In all he captured two officers and sixty one other ranks, together with six machine guns. Cpl Gordon returned to Australia on 18 January 1919

    Studio portrait of 521 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Robert Sumner. A tailor from Fitzroy, Victoria, L Cpl Sumner enlisted on 17 August 1914 and embarked with the rank of Bugler with the 6th Battalion, E Company, aboard HMAT Hororata (A20). Following service at Gallipoli, he transferred with his unit to France. He was brielfy assigned to the 2nd Field Ambulance in April 1917, before being re-attached as a medical detail to the 6th Battalion. As a 1914 recruit, L Cpl Sumner was eligible for "Anzac Leave" and returned to Australia on 23 December 1918
